  • What is Nature-based Therapy?

The fundamental premise of a Nature-based approach is that the well-being of humans is intimately linked with their environment and the natural world. Humans are nature. While these sessions may be practiced outdoors, in office or virtually, the focus always includes nature engagement in some form for the purpose of achieving therapeutic goals. Nature-based sessions draw on mindfulness, sensory awareness, eco-art, engagement with spontaneous natural events, contact with nature/living beings as emotional resources, gentle to moderate physical activities, yoga, walk and talks, meditation, adventure therapy, animal assisted therapy and nature conservation.

The length of treatment will necessarily vary from one individual to another. Therapy is tailored to your treatment goals, severity of distress and of course your personal/work time limitations. • What is the difference between Yoga and Trauma Conscious Yoga?

Trauma Conscious Yoga (TCY), or trauma-sensitive yoga, uses practices from traditional yoga and somatic psychotherapy. Both evidence based practices are created to empower clients, to assist in reconnecting the mind and body. A TYC teacher is specially certified to assist clients who are living with and healing from trauma. By avoiding actions, phrases, conditions and situations that are common triggers, TCY teachers create a safe environment for exploring and healing.

  • What is Somatic Therapy?

Somatic psychotherapy employs awareness of body sensation to assist in eliminating mental health and physical distress. It draws upon the body’s innate wisdom to move through traumatic experiences and find resolution and regulation. In contrast to traditional psychotherapy such as CBT where talking is the primary approach, somatic therapy identifies the body as the foundational point for healing.
